The message in the media has changed. IT jobs did not all go overseas, and IT jobs aren't just for programmers and network analysts. Today there are not enough young people in the pipeline for all the IT jobs that will be needed in the next ten years. To address the problem, Blue Cross, IBM, and the University of South Carolina (USC) have created a consortium to grow IT talent, nurture IT management expertise and cultivate related business and organizational relationships. The coalition now includes 14 member organizations.
The consortium will address growing IT hiring challenges, such as attracting students to consider technology careers in insurance, banking, retail, airlines, petroleum and other industries dependent on high volume transaction processing. It also will dedicate efforts to directing students to companies that are hiring IT professionals.
Join us for our May Learning Lunch as we learn from Lonnie Emard, the Consortium's Executive Director about how this organization was formed and how it intends, with your help, to secure the future of the IT Profession in South Carolina.
